the future isnt bright its drainpipes!!!!!!


so in an attempt to bring the building into the modern era i have started to add pieces to it like signs and lights and most importantly drainpipes hopefully its starting to come across as an old building with a new use.

my old tescos


thought id include a building from my home town in this scene so ive built the tesco metro in torquay town center.

shouldn't take a great deal of time to unwrap so might leave that for tomorrow and get to work on the next building.

wilkies


found a nice building which happens to be a wilkinsons in rotherham i'm about 95% finished building it really just need to unwrap and texture cause the part of the building thats missing is the roll down metal shutters for the doors and i will reuse them for the loading bay round the side.

theres not enough time for me to get this done but i will work my ass off to try the central building is going to become a pub surrounded by department stores and other town center style buildings the large expanse on the right of the image will become a carpark and covered market area. still texturing the pavements

just testing scale

Taken my new building into unreal just to test the scale and see what a difference it makes to the scene. I've removed 2 of the smaller modular buildings and moved the old focus building into their place.
Obviously the new building looks odd at the moment its completely untextured and only half built but i'm hoping by the end of this week to have that building fully built and textured and then i can get started on the modern day buildings again.

The new building is based on the old post office in Tintagel it was built in the 15th century which is the later end of the medieval era.

scene 2 building 1


righty-o started to make the 1st modular set for scenes 2 onwards, using the image i posted before i created a texture sheet which had a blank wall section, 2 window sections and the base trim and top and then a second sheet with the door section and enough space to put the other pieces i need.

ive used the same method as before to build all the pieces and there we have it the main portion of building 1 is finished and i will be making 2 buildings out of these pieces once this set is complete i will be working on the next modular set before i start importing everything into unreal

scene 2+ starts

ok so i know nothing of victorian architecture so i went on a little photo taking mission around st helens and found some old buildings from that era the 1st is a detatched building that i really liked and will become the building to the left of my feature building. ive put together a bit of a collage of the pic i took from that building and i've also started to work out the sizes of the building blocks that it will be made of.




ive got more photos of other buildings that i need to do this with but atleast now the other scenes have started production bit of a weight lifted

its raining its pouring

so done my rain variant of the map and changed the fountain for a well, the victorian scene will be the 1st to have the fountain now. i do need to rework the actual rain texture and the planes that its on but thats the easy bit now and can wait until i have the rest of the scenes done. starting tomorrow i start work on the modern day version of the map.

its snowing


so my 1st attempt at rain looked like snow so i knocked up a quick snow tile and changed the grass in the scene and made an icicle alpha and there we have it a snow variant of my scene.

getting close to final

So I've started working on the lighting and effects for this scene. The end of the time drag is starting as its almost time to start working on the next scene (yay). I still have to create my night time version of the scene but for now a day and sunset will have to do you.

added a few market stalls to give some life to the foreground in one of my angles, dont mind the car in the background i got bored and put it in so i could crash into things, it will be removed.

nearly at the end of the 1st scene only 3 more :S

ok so now i've started to decorate the scene a bit more instead of just buildings its actually starting to look like it could be part or a dragon age/fable esque styled game.

i'm thinking that it looks like a slightly well off town not full of paupers but at the same time its too far away from the cities to be built up to a great extent.
